Passenger Cars - 500 Series

The 500 series passenger cars were heavy diecast cars with exacting detail, six-wheel trucks, window shades, and so on.  They are really nice models.  There were only two cars in this series: a Pullman baggage-club combine, and a coach.  They essentially became the 652 and 653.   There was never a heavyweight observation.  They were introduced in 1939, and were available as kits.

The baggage door on the combine slides open, and all of the vestibule doors will open and close.   They are held closed by springs.  Furthermore, the roof is much better proportioned and detailed than the 496 and 497.  And the diecast underframes are well detailed.

They're also very heavy and don't roll well.  The UP Northern has all it can do to pull three of these cars around the layout.
